Malachi 3:13-18 First Lesson
13. You have spoken harsh words against me, says the Lord. Yet you say, “How have we spoken against you?”
14. You have said, “It is vain to serve God. What do we profit by keeping his command or by going about as mourners before the Lord of hosts?
15. Now we count the arrogant happy; evildoers not only prosper, but when they put God to the test they escape.” The Reward of the Faithful
16. Then those who revered the Lord spoke with one another. The Lord took note and listened, and a book of remembrance was written before him of those who revered the Lord and thought on his name.
17. They shall be mine, says the Lord of hosts, my special possession on the day when I act, and I will spare them as parents spare their children who serve them.
18. Then once more you shall see the difference between the righteous and the wicked, between one who serves God and one who does not serve him.

Malachi 4:1-2 First Lesson
1. See, the day is coming, burning like an oven, when all the arrogant and all evildoers will be stubble; the day that comes shall burn them up, says the Lord of hosts, so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.
2. But for you who revere my name the sun of righteousness shall rise, with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.

Revelation 22:1-5 Second Lesson
1. Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb
2. through the middle of the street of the city. On either side of the river is the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, producing its fruit each month; and the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations.
3. Nothing accursed will be found there any more. But the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him;
4. they will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads.
5. And there will be no more night; they need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.

1 Peter 4:12-19 Epistle
12. Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that is taking place among you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you.
13. But rejoice insofar as you are sharing Christ’s sufferings, so that you may also be glad and shout for joy when his glory is revealed.
14. If you are reviled for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the spirit of glory, which is the Spirit of God, is resting on you.
15. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, a criminal, or even as a mischief maker.
16. Yet if any of you suffers as a Christian, do not consider it a disgrace, but glorify God because you bear this name.
17. For the time has come for judgment to begin with the household of God; if it begins with us, what will be the end for those who do not obey the gospel of God?
18. And “If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinners?”
19. Therefore, let those suffering in accordance with God’s will entrust themselves to a faithful Creator, while continuing to do good.

Matthew 25:31-46 Gospel
31. “When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on the throne of his glory.
32. All the nations will be gathered before him, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats,
33. and he will put the sheep at his right hand and the goats at the left.
34. Then the king will say to those at his right hand, ‘Come, you that are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world;
35. for I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,
36. I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’
37. Then the righteous will answer him, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry and gave you food, or thirsty and gave you something to drink?
38. And when was it that we saw you a stranger and welcomed you, or naked and gave you clothing?
39. And when was it that we saw you sick or in prison and visited you?’
40. And the king will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did it to one of the least of these who are members of my family, you did it to me.’
41. Then he will say to those at his left hand, ‘You that are accursed, depart from me into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels;
42. for I was hungry and you gave me no food, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink,
43. I was a stranger and you did not welcome me, naked and you did not give me clothing, sick and in prison and you did not visit me.’
44. Then they also will answer, ‘Lord, when was it that we saw you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or naked or sick or in prison, and did not take care of you?’
45. Then he will answer them, ‘Truly I tell you, just as you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to me.’
46. And these will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
